§ Mr. Jim LesterThe number of proposed redundancies notified to my Department under the redundancy handling provisions of the Employment Protection Act 1975 for the Wolverhampton travel-to-work area in the 12 months following May 1979 is as follows :
Employees Establishments 1979— May 237 6 June 850 5 July 182 3 August 279 5 September 294 6 October 242 5 November 41 2 December 314 6 1980— January 366 5 February 157 5 March 450 7 April 622 12 Total 4,034 67 During the same period 562 redundancies at 12 establishments were formally withdrawn. There is no statutory requirement to notify my Department when proposed redundancies do not take place.
I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that the number of redundancies notified to it as due to occur in the Wolverhampton travel-to-work area in the 12 months following May 1979 is as follows :

The increase in the Manpower Services Commission's figures as compared with those given in my reply of 25 April—[Vol. 984, c. 292–94]—is due to account being taken of some very late notifications.
