HC Deb 09 June 1980 vol 986 cc35-6W
Mr. Geraint Howells

asked the Secretary of State for Wales whether he will take steps to improve the standard of public transport in Wales ; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Michael Roberts

The primary responsibility for public transport planning in Wales rests with the county councils, which have a statutory duty to ensure that an adequate public transport system exists within their areas.

The bus licensing proposals in the Transport Bill are designed to introduce more flexibility into the system and to encourage the provision of new services.
