HC Deb 09 June 1980 vol 986 cc40-1W
Mr. Morgan

asked the Secretary of State for Energy whether he will take steps to ensure that, as soon as is practicable, a farmers' representative is appointed to serve on the main board of the Merseyside and North Wales Electricity Board.

Mr. Norman Lamont

In making appointments to electricity boards in England and Wales the Secretary of State for Energy seeks a balance of experience, having regard to the fields of activity, including agriculture, set out in the Electricity Act 1947.

The chairman recently appointed by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Trade to the Merseyside and North Wales electricity consultative council, who is an ex-officio member of that board, has, I understand, many years experience of farming in the area.
