HC Deb 04 June 1980 vol 985 cc766-7W
Mr. Anthony Grant

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement as to the nature and extent of the current review of the urban aid programme; and how this will affect the making of grants for voluntary work to the major towns and cities.

Mr. King

The current review is examining these grants for projects outside the programme and partnership areas to assess the value of the programme, and to see whether it should be continued or whether changes are needed. We hope to announce decisions before the Summer Recess. It is therefore too early to say how it will affect voluntary work.

Sir William Elliott

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement as to the nature and extent of the current review of the urban aid programme and how this will affect the cities in the North-East.

Mr. King

Further to my reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Harrow, Central (Mr. Grant), it is also too early to say how it will affect the cities in the North-East.
