HC Deb 04 June 1980 vol 985 c713W
Mr. Nicholas Winterton

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many acres of trees were felled in Scotland in 1979.

Mr. Younger

Precise figures are available only for the Forestry Commission's plantations and by financial years.

In the year ended 31 March 1980, the commission felled 1,600 hectares in Scotland. It is estimated that felling in private woodlands amounted to some 1,900 hectares in the same period.
