HC Deb 04 June 1980 vol 985 cc699-700W
Mr. Greville Janner

asked the Secretary of State for Industry to which industries in the city of Leicester he anticipates giving assistance in the coming year.

Mr. David Mitchell

Manufacturing industries in the city of Leicester are eligible for certain forms of Government

Mr. David Mitchell

Of the 1,290 staff savings announced for the Department on 6 December 1979, some 340 have been achieved so far. Most of the remainder are due to be achieved by 1982–83. The savings are being made in industry sponsorship divisions, the regional organisation, research establishments and divisions and in private offices; also in the common service divisions which support both my own Department and the Department of Trade. Not all the savings have yet been identified in terms of particular grades. To the extent that this detail is at present available it is given in the following table.

assistance provided they meet the current criteria, but I cannot anticipate which industries will apply; nor can I predict the outcome of applications which have already been made.
