asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether it is his intention in 1982 or subsequently to defer the payment of income tax rebates to those on strike until the end of a strike.

Yes. As my right hon. and learned Friend announced in his Budget Statement on 26 March, we intend to bring into tax in 1982 benefits paid to strikers in respect of their dependants. This will be done in such a way that claimants will not suffer deductions of tax until they return to work, and the payment of tax refunds to strikers generally will be similarly deferred.
