Mr. Latham

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will break down in tabular form, similar to that provided to the hon. Member for Melton on 12 July 1976, details of the staff currently in post in the Directorate-General of Design Services; and whether he will break this figure down into Civil Service grades, indicating also the number of persons trained in relevant professional disciplines.

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will set out in tabular form, for 1 April in each of the years 1976 to 1980, inclusive (a) the total number of architects employed by the Property Services Agency, (b) the number of architects in the design office of the Directorate-General of Design Services and (c) the total staff of the Directorate-General of Design Services.

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will list the current design programme of work of the design office of the Director-General of Design Services, indicating in each case whether the project has reached construction stage; what reductions have been made in the programme since 3 May 1979 in the interests of saving public expenditure; and what part of the outstanding commissions he intends to put out to private architects in the interests of saving public sector manpower.

The current programme of work of the design office of the Director-General of Design Services consists of the following projects:

IN DESIGN Poole Officers Mess Extension Lympstone Lecture Theatre HMS Osprey Physical and Recreational Training Centre and Naval Patrol Headquarters Colchester NAAFI Families Shop and Married Quarters Exchange Store Croydon Crown Courts Saxa Vord Junior Ranks Accommodation HMS Sultan Physical and Recreational Training Centre, Laboratory Block and Classrooms Catterick Bapaume Barracks Junior Ranks Facilities, Office and Storage Accommodation Vimy Barracks Physical and Recreational Training Centre Hartland Point Reprovision of Operations Building Kineton Central Ammunition Depot Development Stone Post Office Technical Training Centre; Central, Administration and Link Buildings, Sports Complex, Boilerhouse modifications and ancillary work

Since 3 May 1979 two projects in design have been cancelled: PSA Headquarters Offices, Cleveland; Exchange Station Site Offices, Liverpool.

There are no proposals to use private architects to complete projects currently in design.
