HC Deb 04 June 1980 vol 985 cc738-9W
Mr. Wrigglesworth

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if any of the 7,500 staff savings in his Department announced on 6 December 1979 have yet been made; and, if not, when he expects them to be achieved and in what divisions, at what grades and in what geographical regions.

Mr. Hayhoe

About 200 to 300 staff savings have already been made, mainly in the London area and including staff up to deputy secretary level. The remaining savings are expected to be made by 1 April 1982 but I am unable to forceast in which grades and geographical areas.

Mr. Wrigglesworth

asked the Secretary of State for Defence in which divisions, at what grades and in what geographical area the 1,163 posts by which the staff in post in the Royal ordnance factories contracted between 1 April 1979 and 1 April 1980 were employed.

Mr. Hayhoe

The number of staff and employees of the Royal ordnance factories decreased by approximately 1,200
