HC Deb 04 June 1980 vol 985 cc714-5W
Mr. Craigen

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the length of time taken in the Glasgow area before applicants to be registered as blind persons can be dealt with through hospital services and/or home visits by an ophthalmologist.

Mr. Fairgrieve

I shall write to the hon. Member as soon as possible.

Mr. Craigen

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many social workers to the blind there are in each region in Scotland; and how many advisers in the Scottish Office are concerned with the welfare of the blind.

Mr. Fairgrieve

This information is not available centrally for staff employed by local authorities and voluntary organisations.

In the Scottish Office two members of the central advisory service of the social work services group have specific responsibility for matters concerning physical handicap, including blindness.
