HL Deb 03 June 1980 vol 409 cc1409-10WA
Lord BYERS

asked Her Majesty's Government:

On what authority an exhibition of "Palestine Folklore", openly sponsored by the terrorist Palestine Liberation Organisation, was recently permitted to have a space in the Commonwealth Institute among other exhibition stands sponsored by nations of the Commonwealth thereby giving the impression to the public and the many parties of schoolchildren that the PLO is a recognised member of the Commonwealth.

The SECRETARY of STATE for FOREIGN and COMMONWEALTH AFFAIRS (Lord Carrington)

The Commonwealth Institute accepts a wide range of non-Commonwealth bookings for its facilities on a commercial basis. The Government do not normally seek to control these bookings.
