Majesty's Government are insisting that France refund the levy currently being charged illegally on United Kingdom exports of lamb as part of any settlement of the problem of sheepmeat.
§ Mr. Buchanan-SmithThe illegal French restrictions on British lamb exports and the introduction of a Community sheepmeat regime are distinct issues and my right hon. Friend does not accept the link that the French Government have made between them. Levies 577W have been paid by individuals, not by Her Majesty's Government, and it is open to individuals to consider taking action in the French courts for recovery of levies charged illegally.
