HC Deb 02 June 1980 vol 985 c590W
Mr. Weetch

asked the Lord Privy Seal whether he will send a British contingent to strengthen the UNIFIL forces in the Lebanon.

Mr. Hurd

Her Majesty's Government have not received any request from the Secretary-General of the United Nations for a troop contribution to strengthen the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon. We continue to supply logistic support.

Mr. Weetch

asked the Lord Privy Seal whether he will make a formal protest to the Israeli Government concerning their support for the Christian Militia in the Southern Lebanon, in the context of the United Nations peacekeeping operation.

Mr. Hurd

We have already made very clear to the Israel Government our concern at their support for the militia of Major Haddad, both unilaterally and in association with our partners of the Nine. We also voted for United Nations Security Council resolution 467 which deplored the provision of military assistance to Haddad forces.
