asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he is now in a position, in response to the request in the Welsh Grand Committee, Official Report, 13 December 1979, column 58, to meet a deputation from Rhymney Valley and Islwyn joint hospital committee to discuss the need for a new district general hospital to serve the Rhymney Valley and Islwyn areas.

No. In my reply I said that this was wholly a matter for the area health authorities concerned. The Gwent health authority intends to carry out a feasibility study into the need for a new district general hospital.
