HC Deb 02 June 1980 vol 985 cc585-6W
Mr. Wrigglesworth

asked the Lord Privy Seal if any of the 425 staff savings in his Department and the 235 in Overseas Development Administration announced on 6 December 1979 have yet been made; and, if not, when he expects them to be achieved and in what divisions, at what grades, and in which geographical areas.

Mr. Hurd

Yes. I would refer the hon. Member to the reply which I gave my hon. Friend the Member for Brigg and Scunthorpe (Mr. Brown) on 16 April.— [Vol. 982, c.732.]

Mr. Wrigglesworth

asked the Lord Privy Seal in which divisions, at what grades and in what geographical area the 478 posts by which the staff in posts in his Department contracted between 1 April 1979 and 1 April 1980 were employed.

Mr. Hurd

The staff-in-post figures for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the Diplomatic Service (including the Overseas Development Administration) were 12,039 on 1 April 1979 and 11,565 on 1 April 1980, a contraction of 474 posts. The contraction occurred mainly in the clerical and secretarial grades principally in London.
