Mr. Wrigglesworth

asked the Minister of Transport in which divisions, at what grades and in what geographical area the 308 posts by which the staff in post in his Department contracted between 1 April 1979 and 1 April 1980 were employed.

The contraction between 1 April 1979 and 1 April 1980 was 414–5.

The directorates contribution to this reduction were:

  • Highways Programming Contracts and Land.
  • Highways Planning and Management.
  • Local Transport and Roads.
  • Transport and Road Research Laboratory.
  • Road Construction Units.
  • Railways.
  • Freight and Transport Industries.
  • Passenger Transport and Greater London.
  • Road Safety.
  • Vehicle Safety.
  • Driving and Driver Licensing
  • Driver and Vehicle Licensing Centre.

The occupational groups contributing to the reductions were:

It would cause disproportionate cost to list all the grades affected in each directorate and be of doubtful value—many posts vacant on 1 April this year have since been filled while others, then occupied,
