HC Deb 02 June 1980 vol 985 c536W
Mr. Wrigglesworth

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if any of the 155 staff savings in his Department announced on 6 December 1979 have yet been made; and, if not, when he expects them to be achieved and in what divisions, at what grades and in which geographical regions.

Mr. Mark Carlisle

Thirty-four of these staff savings have been made. Plans are in train to achieve a further 73 in 1980–81, and the balance in 1981–82. These are spread across the Department's branches. Staff affected are mainly in executive, clerical and support grades with a smaller number in senior and professional grades. Except for a handful of posts in the Northern economic planning region, all are in the London area—South-Eastern economic planning region.
