Mr. Banks

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he intends to make copies of " Protect and Survive", updated, available for sale through citizen's advice centres.

Mr. Brittan

It is already open to the centres to sell the booklet if they wish to do so.

Mr. Banks

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many suits designed for protection against (a) nuclear fall-out and (b) chemical contamination are issued to personnel in the fire service; and what stocks are held.

Mr. Brittan

The provision and scale of issue of clothing for use by fire service personnel is a matter for fire authorities. Statistics on available stocks are not held centrally.

It is for each chief officer of police to decide stock holding and issues of protective clothing. Statistics are not available centrally about these matters.
