HC Deb 02 June 1980 vol 985 c552W
Mr. Biggs-Davison

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will take steps to ensure that the questions, including voluntary questions, to be asked in the census are uniform throughout the United Kingdom; and if he will make a statement.

Sir George Young

Steps are being taken to ensure a sufficient degree of uniformity in the forms. Some differences in the forms reflect differing needs for information on, for example, housing and, in Wales, use of the Welsh language. The different needs in Northern Ireland were referred to in the answer given by my hon. Friend the Minister of State, Northern Ireland Office, on 2 April.—[Vol. 982, c.253.]
