HC Deb 31 July 1980 vol 989 c794W
38. Mr. John Evans

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if the Boundary Commission for England, when reviewing parliamentary constituencies, takes into account future population forecasts; and, if so, within what time scale it operates.

Mr. Brittan

There is no statutory requirement for the Parliamentary Boundary Commission for England, in the course of its review of parliamentary constituencies, to take account of forecast changes in electorates but the commission, when considering alternative schemes, does have regard to perceptible trends in electorates which would quickly produce constituencies well above or below the average size.
