HC Deb 31 July 1980 vol 989 cc792-3W
34. Mr. Budgen

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many immigrants of new Commonwealth and Pakistan ethnic origin he anticipates will enter the United Kingdom lawfully in 1980.

Mr. Raison

Statistics of persons accepted for settlement on arrival in the United Kingdom which are published quarterly are recorded by citizenship—nationality, not ethnic origin. The latest information available was published on 4 June in Home Office statistical bulletin, "Control of Immigration Statistics—First Quarter 1980" issue 8/80, a copy of which is in the Library of the House. It is planned to publish statistics for the second quarter in the first half of September. It is not our practice to publish projections of future numbers: reliable projections cannot be made as they can be affected by so many continually changing factors.
