HC Deb 31 July 1980 vol 989 c789W
18. Mr. Sheerman

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make a statement on the carrying of weapons by foreign diplomats and their staff while engaged in security surveillance in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Whitelaw

Responsibility for the control of these matters rests with the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis. His policy, which I endorse, is that foreign security personnel accompanying people visiting this country should not be armed.
