HC Deb 31 July 1980 vol 989 c828W
Dr. Roger Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services why, in the impending health reorganisation in England and Wales, family practitioner services are not going to be integrated along with the other services, as has been the case in Scotland and Northern Ireland since 1974.

Dr. Vaughan

We believe that the present arrangements for the administration of family practitioner services work well and see no reason to introduce major changes. We are, however, considering ways in which the relationship between family practitioner committees and the new district health authorities can be strengthened, particularly in respect of service planning.
