HC Deb 31 July 1980 vol 989 cc783-4W
Mr. Greville Janner

asked the Secretary of State for Employment when he intends those provisions of the Employment Bill dealing with exclusion from trades union membership, unfair dismissal, maternity, guarantee payments, picketing and secondary action, respectively, to be brought into effect.

Mr. Prior

I am not yet able to give precise dates when each of the Bill's provisions will be brought into effect, but I intend that these should be specified in a commencement order soon after the Bill has received Royal Assent.

and Safety Executive will reassess fully the possible risks to persons living in the vicinity. The reassessment will take into account the effects of the possible construction and operation on the island of both the URL and Occidental refineries, and the views of the local authorities. If the reassessment showed that there was a significant risk, and that there was likely to be a contravention of health and safety legislation, the executive would consider using the enforcement powers granted to it under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.
