HC Deb 31 July 1980 vol 989 c838W
Sir Bernard Braine

asked the Minister of Transport whether he is satisfied that adequate studies have been made of the impact of a supermarket development at the Rayleigh Weir junction on the A127 due to be completed early in 1981; who undertook the studies; when they were completed; and what consultations there were with the local district authorities and the police.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

I am satisfied that traffic studies made by the Department in collaboration with Essex county council were adequate. A study was completed before a decision was taken on each of the three successive applications for planning permission for a supermarket development on the site. The planning decision was taken by Castle Point district council and consultation upon it was a matter for it.
