§ Dr. Roger Thomasasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will make a statement on his discussions with health authorities about how medications prescribed by hospital doctors at all levels are to be supplied by the hospital pharmacy rather than by such patients presenting instructions to family practitioners to provide such medication to cover the period up to the next hospital appointment through FP 10; and what is the frequency of such a practice.
§ Dr. VaughanIn April the Department reminded health authorities of guidance on prescribing for hospital outpatients, and it is reviewing prescribing policies. The needs of the patient should decide whether the duty of prescribing rests with the hospital doctor or the 753W general practitioner, and information about decisions in individual cases is not collected centrally.
