HL Deb 29 July 1980 vol 412 c858WA
Lord KALDOR

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they can account for the unusual difference of £2.8 billion between the official estimates of the PSBR of £12,634 million for the calendar year 1979 and of £9,797 million for the financial year 1979–80.

The MINISTER of STATE, TREASURY (Lord Cockfield)

There is nothing unusual in the figures except in so far as they reflect the determination of the present Government to reduce the PSBR compared with the failure of the Labour Administration so to do.
