HC Deb 28 July 1980 vol 989 c482W
Mr. Faulds

asked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster whether, further to his written answers to the hon. Member for Warley, East, Official Report, 26 July 1979, columns 353–54; Official Report, 19 December 1979, columns 205–6; and Official Report, 19 May, columns 36–37; and in view of the fact that the publication of the latest report of the Reviewing Committee on the Export of Works of Art has now been delayed for over a year after the period covered, which ended on 30 June 1979, he will make such changes in the future preparation of these reports as may be necessary to supply Parliament and the public with more up-to-date information on the functioning of this Committee.

Mr. St. John-Stevas

Yes. The reviewing committee has already taken steps in recent years to organise its work so as to facilitate the earlier publication of its reports. As the hon. Member knows from my reply on 19 May—[Vol. 985, c. 36–37]—I have received the committee's report for 1978–79, aspects of which I have been considering. Information about the functioning of the committee during the year is provided through the press notices issued by my Department whenever an export licence for a work of art is withheld.
