HC Deb 28 July 1980 vol 989 c495W
Mr. Stuart Holland

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what is the estimated share of the top 100 manufacturing companies in (a) net output, and (b) employment, in manufacturing, respectively, in the most recent year available.

Mr. David Mitchell

Results of the census of production for 1977, the most recent year for which figures are available, indicate that the 100 largest United Kingdom manufacturing enterprises in the private sector—in terms of net output—accounted for 39 per cent. of total net output and 33 per cent. of total employment in manufacturing industry.
