HC Deb 28 July 1980 vol 989 c568W
Mr. Donald Stewart

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is his estimate of the Scottish fishing fleet's annual fuel consumption at the latest available date; and what was the cost of a standard measure of diesel oil in each of the last five years.

Mr. Younger

Statistics of fuel consumption are not collected by my Department, but the amount of diesel fuel currently used by the fishing fleet is estimated to be about 180 million litres per annum.

There is no uniform price for diesel oil throughout Scotland. The following are typical prices reported to my Department for the north-western area:

Pence per litre

July 1977 8–21
July 1978 8–21
July 1979 12–26
July 1980 15–09
