§ Mr. Teddy Taylorasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will explain the procedure for applications for payment of EEC subsidies for the export of beef to the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, Romania and other Eastern bloc countries, and the procedure for the payments to be made; and why it is not possible to supply information on the amount of subsidies paid out for such beef exports to Russia from the EEC in the first five months of the current year or for any comparable period.
§ Mr. Buchanan-SmithTraders who wish to benefit from EEC export subsidies for beef are required to make an application specifying the country of destination. An export subsidy becomes payable when the exporter provides proof that the beef has arrived in the country which he specified. Payment is made by the member State issuing the export document. Export subsidies for beef going to the USSR were discontinued with effect from 21 June.
The cost of export subsidies for particular periods and destinations are not separately identified in Community statistics and because of the varying rates of subsidies according to the presentation of the beef exported the cost cannot be meaningfully estimated.
