HL Deb 28 July 1980 vol 412 c712WA
Lord AVEBURY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

On what occasions the Government have made clear to industry their commitment to equal opportunities and the avoidance of racial discrimination, and whether they will assemble the relevant statements in an easily accessible form in the Library of the House of Lords.

The Earl of GOWRIE

The Government seek continually to make clear to industry and more generally its commitment to equal opportunity and its total rejection of unlawful racial discrimination. It does so through many channels. These include answers to Parliamentary Questions; meetings and correspondence with employment bodies and ethnic minority organisations; meetings of departmental advisory bodies which include members nominated by the CBI and TUC; and the operational activities of my department's Race Relations Employment Advisory Service and of the training and employment services of the Manpower Services Commission. The most recent occasion on which the Government's policy was restated at ministerial level was in a speech by the Home Secretary on 11th July 1980, a copy of which is available in the Library.
