§ Mr. Armor Lewisasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if, in connection with his review of civil defence, he will examine the campaign initiated by the Government of Switzerland of supplying to all of their citizens nuclear protected air raid shelters; and whether he will investigate these arrangements with a view to establishing a similar arrangement in Great Britain.
§ Mr. BrittanThe protection of the public from any nuclear attack is an important aspect of our home defence arrangements which are currently under review. The measures adopted in other countries are under study but it has to be recognised that home defence arrangements, important as they are, must be geared to what the country can afford.
