§ Mr. Heddleasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if, in honour of the eightieth birthday celebrations of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, and as a mark of the respect and affection with which she is held world-wide, he will consider floodlighting the memorial of the late King George VI in the Mall for the duration of Her Majesty's birthday celebrations.
§ Mr. MonroThe King George VI memorial was floodlit on 22 July. The floodlighting will continue each evening for the remainder of this year.
376Wancient monuments. Reductions have been effected by natural wastage and are being made good by increasing the use of private contractors. I am satisfied that monuments in the care of the Department are adequately maintained. Funds available for excavation and allied activities are broadly similar in real terms to those for previous years.
