§ Mr. Tilleyasked the Secretary of State for the Environment which types of asbestos, at what cost, recently have been removed from (a) the Palace of Westminster and (b) the Department of the Environment buildings in Marsham Street, SW1.
§ Mr. Geoffrey FinsbergWhite asbestos has been removed this year from the Palace of Westminster during the heating modernisation programme at a cost of approximately £6,000. Faint traces of blue asbestos, thought to be impurities, were found and appropriate safety precautions were taken. Grey and white asbestos is gradually being removed from pipework in Marsham Street but none has been removed so far this year. A total of £4,500 was spent on this work in 1978 and 1979.
