What is their policy towards the draining of the Somerset Levels.

The drainage of land, including the Somerset Levels, is a matter for the land owners and drainage authorities concerned. Subject to the appropriate rules about eligibility, the Government are prepared to grant-aid suitable drainage schemes. In reaching decisions in individual cases careful regard is paid to the requirements of Section H of the Country side Act 1968 and Section 22 of the Water Act 1973.
