§ 38. Mr. Rentonasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what consideration he is giving to the abolition of the regional health authority tier rather then the area health authority.
§ Mr. Patrick JenkinAs I announced in my statement to the House on 23 July—[Vol. 989, c. 505–509]—after considering the comments on "Patients First", we have decided that area health authorities should be replaced by authorities at broadly the present district level. Regional level authorities will be retained, but, as I said in my statement, I intend later on to review their role.
