asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what actual levels of fees were payable to the assistant commissioners to the Parliamentary Boundary Commissions during 1979; and what are the corresponding levels now.

Mr. Brittan

The daily fee payable in respect of assistant commissioners to the Parliamentary Boundary Commissions for England and Wales during 1979 was £49. This was increased to £75 as from 1 January 1980 and to £80 as from 1 April 1980. This last figure is subject to review in the light of the recent report of the Review Body on Top Salaries (Cmnd. 7952).
