§ Mr. Cartwrightasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the estimated full-year cost of allowing widows under the age of 65 years to receive the same earned income relief as those over 65 years in addition to the present personal allowance.
§ Mr. Peter Rees[pursuant to his reply, 16 July 1980, c. 561]: The cost of giving the aged persons' single allowance instead of the ordinary single allowance to working widows under 65 is estimated, very roughly, to be of the order of £35 million in a full year at 1980–81 income levels. It is assumed that widows with children would continue to receive the additional personal allowance.
