§ Mr. Canavanasked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he will give a statement of the up-to-date position regarding the application for a protection order for the Upper Spey, under the terms of the Freshwater and Salmon Fisheries (Scotland) Act 1976.
§ Mr. YoungerProposals made by the Badenoch angling association for a protection order were advertised in June580W and August/September 1979. By the closing date for receipt of objections, 24 objections had been received. The consultative committee set up in terms of the 1976 Act considered the proposals on 18 December 1979 and recommended certain modifications. Revised proposals were considered by the committee on 22 April 1980, and it then recommended that a protection order should be made. I am now considering whether to refer the proposals and objections to a public local inquiry.
