§ Mr. Jim Lester[pursuant to his reply, 8 July 1980, c. 94]: Information is readily available for 1978, 1979 and 1980 but could be assembled for all earlier years specified only at disproportionate cost. However, figures are given for June 1970 for comparison.
The following table gives the available information for the Greater Manchester metropolitan county and for the Manchester travel-to-work area. This comprises the total numbers registered as unemployed and the percentage rates of unemployment. The numbers of school leavers included in these figures are also shown but rates of unemployment for school leavers are not compiled.
