§ Mr. Hugh D. Brownasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the estimated expenditure on information services and publicity by each Department for which he has responsibility; and if he will give details of such expenditure for the Scottish Development Department, and in particular for any publicity campaign required to promote the sale of council houses.
§ Mr. YoungerStaff costs for the Scottish Information Office, which serves all my Departments, for the financial year 1980–81 are expected to be £565,000. An analysis by the component Departments is not readily available and could be provided only at disproportionate cost.
Publicity expenditure for the Scottish Office during the current financial year is estimated at £469,250 and includes £137,550 for the Scottish Development Department. Of that, the amount alloted for publicity in connection with the Tenants' Rights Etc. (Scotland) Bill, subject to its enactment, is £69,000. That sum covers the cost of informing the public about the implications of the legislation, including the sale of council houses.
