asked the Secretary of State for Employment (1) what is the estimated number of men over the age of 55 years in the United Kingdom who are currently unemployed;

(2) what is the estimated number of men under the age of 25 years in the United Kingdom who are currently unemployed.

At 10 April, the latest date for which an age analysis of the unemployed is available, the numbers of males registered as unemployed in the United Kingdom aged 55 years and over and aged under 25 years were 221,461 and 316,369, respectively.
