HC Deb 14 July 1980 vol 988 cc450-1W
Mr. Hooley

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what investigations are being carried out into the water leakage into the reactor core of the Trawsfynydd nuclear power station; whether this has produced any radioactive contamination outside the reactor; and what estimate has been made of the length of time the reactor will be out of commission.

Mr. Norman Lamont

I refer the hon. Member to the reply which I gave on 10 July to the hon. Member for Merioneth (Mr. Thomas). I understand that the Nuclear Installations Inspectorate does not consider that there is any risk of radioactive contamination outside the reactor from the leak or from the remedial action. I am informed that the CEGB is carrying out safety checks on the reactor which are expected to be completed in the next few days.
