HL Deb 14 July 1980 vol 411 c1604WA
The Marquess of AILESBURY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether in principle they would feel inclined to support a Bill which sought to confer upon private tenants the right to buy their homes; and, if not, why not.

The PARLIAMENTARY UNDERSECRETARY of STATE, DEPARTMENT of the ENVIRONMENT (Lord Bellwin)

No. The Government do not believe that they have the right to require the disposal of houses purchased by private owners with their own assets.
