asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will consider increasing the total allowable catch for herring to 1,000 tons.

Total allowable catches are established by EC Council regulation. A departure from the zero TACs agreed by the Council for 1980 for the main herring stocks around the United Kingdom could not be justified on current scientific advice.
