HL Deb 14 July 1980 vol 411 c1599WA
The Earl of KIMBERLEY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the new policy of British Airways in removing the word "Airways" from their aircraft, leaving only the word "British", contravenes the Trade Descriptions Act, as it implies that the American aircraft are of British manufacture.

Lord TREFGARNE

I trust that British Airways will have carefully considered all the implications of their policy to change the livery on their aircraft. It is a matter entirely for their decision and it would be a matter for the courts and not for Her Majesty's Government to decide as to whether any individual case does, or does not, contravene trade descriptions legislation.
