§ Mr. Jim LesterAt 8 May, the latest date for which unemployment figures for ethnic minority group workers are available, the number of people registered as unemployed in the city of Birmingham was 40,692 of which 17.1 per cent. were of ethnic minority origin. The city of Birmingham has been taken as the area covered by the Aston, Birmingham, Erdington, Handsworth, Northfield, Selly Oak, Small Heath, Sparkhill, Sutton Cold-field and Washwood Heath employment offices.
