HC Deb 08 July 1980 vol 988 c110W
45. Mr. Knox

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is the current pupil-teacher ratio in Staffordshire; and how this compares with the pupil-teacher ratio in England and Wales.

Dr. Boyson

In January 1979, the latest date for which ratios are available in respect of individual local authorities, the overall pupil-teacher ratio for maintained nursery, primary and secondary schools in Staffordshire was 19.2:1; the comparable ratio for England was 18.9:1. For England the estimated ratio for January 1980 was 18.7:1.

Statistical information about schools in Wales is the responsibility of my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Wales.
