§ 39. Mr. Gwilym Robertsasked the Secretary of State or Education and Science what plans he has for expanding adult education provision.
§ Dr. BoysonMy right hon. and learned Friend fully recognises the value of continuing education for adults, particularly that designed to help the disadvantaged and those lacking sufficient command of the most basic skills. This underlies our support for the adult literacy and basic skills unit and our invitation to the Advisory Council for Adult and Continuing Education to produce proposals later this year for the development of adult education. It is, however, for local education authorities and other providers to determine, in the light of needs, demands and available resources, the actual pattern and scale of provision.
